The year 2010 pushed the envelope in entertainment technology. Inception, Tron Legacy, Shutter Island are shining examples from a blockbuster year. 2011 promises to raise the bar even higher. Here are our picks of the best flicks out this summer.

Transformers 3
The producers have apparently crossed the 400 million mark in spending to create the latest installment of the Transformers franchise. Transformers 3 is the first of the series to have been filmed in 3d and with madder toys like a Ferrari and a supped up Merc promises to be a double barrel of fun. T3 hits cinemas on the Independence Day weekend 2011.

Fast Five
The latest in the fast and furious franchise re-unites the popular original cast of Paul Walker and Vin Diesel. Based in Brazil and overloaded with fast cars and hot women as usual, Fast Five promises to be a scintillating ride. It out comes on the 29th April this year.

The Mechanic
Super star Jason Statham is back doing what he does best. The Mechanic is an action thriller with loads bruised bodies, crashes and explosions. It’s slated to be the first real big ticket launch of the year slated to hit screens on the 21st of January.

Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro co-star in this epic thriller about a ‘magic pill’ that completely transforms the life of an unpublished writer. The pill enables 100% use of brain performance enhancing his abilities but also threatens his life. (Expected Release – March 18 2011)

No Strings Attached
This raunchy comedy shows 2 lifelong best friends indulging in no commitment based sexual activities to protect their friendship. Emma (Natalie Portman) and Adam (Ashton Kutcher) agree to have sex whenever they want as long as they do not fall in love with each other. However, this simple agreement turns out to be tougher test than what they had imagined it to be. (Expected Release – January 21 2011)

Kung Fu Panda 2 – The Kaboom of Doom
The sequel to the well-acclaimed Kung Fu Panda looks set to galvanise the movie industry. With Jack Black as the adorable ‘Po’ and a star-studded cast line up that will include Dustin Hoffman, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Gary Oldman and Michelle Yeoh this martial arts comedy might just turn out to be the kick-ass movie of the year. (Expected Release – June 3 2011)

Pirates of the Caribbean 4 – On Stranger Tides
Captain Jack Sparrow is back once again with Captain Barbossa to discover the elusive fountain of youth. The fourth addition of the popular series sees the introduction of Penelope Cruz who plays a woman from Captain Jack Sparrow’s past who has returned to settle old scores.

Another marvel comic that has been remade into a movie Thor describes the story of a powerful and arrogant warrior who has been cast out and forced to live with humans. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has been banished from Asgard by his father Odion (Anthony Hopkins) and forced to relive his days on Earth where he becomes a powerful defender and also falls in love with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). (Expected Release – May 11 2011)
